Safety Tips: Essential Oils and Cats
Posted January 10, 2018
This time of year, as the air gets dry, many of us turn on our dehumidifiers and essential oil diffusers. If you’re using essential oils in your home, in a diffuser or as a fragrance in a scented candle, for example, you should know that some essential oils can be extremely toxic to cats.
Cats lack an enzyme that helps break down a component of certain oils including those from Cinnamon, Clove, Thyme, Oregano, Savory, Citrus, and Pine. Never diffuse use these oils in a diffuser if you have a cat in your home, and do not pet your cat after using them on your skin. As will all toxic substances, keep them out of reach of all pets and children in your home.
