Inflation is relentless and we need to ask for your help now …this week
Posted June 10, 2023
Dear friends,
It feels like we wrote a similar letter last year about this time and looking back we did!
Inflation has been described as a monster that gobbles up scarce resources and makes everything more expensive. This monster arrived at the Goathouse last year and it is still here and with a vengeance.
Staffing and utilities costs have mushroomed. We have 10 employees in staggered shifts. They work very hard from 7AM to 4PM to administer medications, feed the kitties, keep them and their home spotless for their health and so our Refuge can always be clean and inviting for your visits. In the last year, wages for the loyal people who take care of the cats have increased almost 30%! Why so high? Because these good people also have to pay more for everything they consume and so it snowballs … Vet Tech compensation is higher, if we are fortunate enough to find these talented people. Cat food costs have risen substantially (as many of you well know) and we still feed about 150 cats. Our gas bills have led strong human adults to cringe and hide their eyes, the filling of our tank is more than $2,000! We also have a big bill with our Vets that varies every month for visits and, surgeries and some dental surgeries, it is generally $ 4,000 a month plus all the prescribed medications.
Peachy still has inflammation in his sinuses and ear and still on Prednisolone, Fizzwig is going to have his surgery next week… he is strong and eating well, it looks like he is doing better, Having to wait for the surgery was probably a good thing… but we had to take him to our vet for X rays and blood work various times and used just about $2,000 of the donated money for him so now we need $2,000 more to be able to pay for the surgery….
PLEASE, PLEASE, HELP US!!!! We would not ask if we didn’t have to. When the new internet will be in place and the adoptable kitties will be in their new homes, we will be able to become more sustainable and care for the old/non adoptable kitties without too much anxiety. Thank you for your generosity and support!
Sincerely, The Goathouse team and its very grateful cats
