Swimmer (aka Phelps) (Special Needs)

Adult, Male, Domestic Short Hair

Phelps is a friendly jet-black cat who came to us from a county shelter when he was just a small 4-month old kitten. He was born with a condition known as swimmer syndrome, which causes the hind legs to splay out, giving a frog-like or "swimmer" appearance. (Check out more facts about kittens with swimmers syndrome here: https://www.kittenlady.org/swimmersyndrome) Early intervention is key to helping kittens with swimmer syndrome, and the staff at the Goathouse have worked with Phelps to help him with mobility. He currently has full mobility in both front legs, but because his back legs splay out, Phelps still sometimes needs help getting around. He's a sweet and loving young cat who would be ideal in a home with a compassionate caretaker who understands his needs and is willing to work with him on improving his mobility. Phelps currently resides with our director, so please ask our volunteers about him if you would like to meet him in person. Adopting a special needs kitty is such a rewarding experience, and we just know that Phelps's special someone is out there somewhere, too!
