Goathouse Refuge

This is Elton ( AKA Peachy). This poor baby had a hard time all his young life…. He was part of a litter of sickly kittens, one has cerebellar hypoplasia but is so adorable she was adopted and is deeply loved…. The others, almost all, made it with the excellent care of a dear friend who fostered them. Peachy came back to us at the Refuge and to me to be fostered and cared for. Well, he finally went to the Vet School to find out if his ear/nose infection was ever going to be curable…. They found out that he has polyps deeply into his ear and nose…. And they need to be taken out… Finally, after waiting for months, he has an appointment on Thursday May 4th…. And we need the money to pay for it! The estimate is between $4000 and $6000 depending on what they find… Can somebody help him/us to give him his life? He is young and he wants to love and play.

This is Fezziwig,  he came from a shelter, we pulled him the last day he would have been alive… He had a cold, we gave him medications and a lot of good food because he was very thin… he gained weight but our veterinarians found that he had pneumonia. His lungs, in the X rays showed some serious problems. His breathing became more and more laborious, and he ended up at the emergency at the Vet school then at the Internal Medicine. Dr. Atkinson put him on different antibiotics to try to resolve the infection. He came home and was on 2 antibiotics for a month without results. The upper lobes of his lungs were and are not getting better, they are stuck and need to be removed because the antibiotics are not reaching the infected parts. I did get to communicate with our lung expert. Her concern was that there is still an infection. Unfortunately we have treated broadly for infections that we can expect in the lungs. The major concern is that we are unable to clear the infection because of a nidus of infection within the abnormal lung lobe or a deficiency in Fezziwig’s immune system. I cannot predict Fezziwig’s ultimate outcome because I do not know what is causing his issues. We have expended our medical management options at this point and have not resolved his disease. 

I am unable to provide a detailed estimate for the next steps in Fezziwig’s workup. I feel as though the next steps will be repeating his CT scan and considering lung biopsies or a lung lobectomy. A rough estimate for this is $6,000-8,000. Without complications it may be closer to $6,000. These numbers are estimates and may change pending recommendations from the surgeons based on repeating Fezziwig’s imaging.
