Goathouse Giving Tuesday Letter from Siglinda

Each year, on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, people around the world celebrate and support causes that are close to their hearts and meaningful in their lives. This year the Goathouse Refuge has a generous donor who has offered a matching gift if we are able to raise $20,000 by the end of Giving Tuesday to provide food, medical care, supplies, utilities, and staffing to take care for our needy kitties. In the past four years, Giving Tuesday has been a critical day for our annual operations, even during the disturbing times of the Covid pandemic. We are really counting on you and our fellow donors, even as we count on our dedicated volunteers every day of the year.
As you consider your donation for Giving Tuesday, here is a word from our founder, Siglinda:
From whence The Goathouse Refuge
When I first bought the property, it came with a gorgeous old goat named Foggy. Every winter it looked like he had put on a sweater because the front part of his body became beige and the back was white. Foggy remained here with me for the remainder of his time. I do identify with an old goat, so I thought it was appropriated to name this place “The Goathouse”.
Fast-forward through two decades of building and repairing and tending to all the animals that have come through our gates, many from kill shelters and private citizens. The Goathouse has become their saving grace. To be sure, thanks to. the great work of the “No Kill” movement, sustained by the individual rescuers and rescue organizations, the percentage of animals killed in shelters is lowering every year. But it is still far too high and the absolute numbers are truly heartbreaking.
Our commitment to the dignity and welfare of the animals is firm! The Goathouse Refuge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal sanctuary dedicated to providing cage-free care for cats regardless of medical issues or disposition until and unless a permanent loving adoptive home can be found. There are many ways to help us, including becoming a monthly sustainer (even $10 a month helps) and even putting the Goathouse Refuge in your will!
This Giving Tuesday, donations will help pay our bills, buy food and medicine, support the wonderful people who clean, feed, and care for the kitties at the Refuge, and enable us to keep doing our work. In the end, but first in my heart, is the gratitude I feel toward all the committed, solid, always present people who continually help Goathouse to become the organization who gave and is giving life to scores upon scores of adorable little hearts!
